44' Nordic 44
$75,000 | 1980 | Sausalito, CA
Description
Designed by Robert Perry and built up in Bellingham, WA, the Nordic 44 performs well in light but is really in her element when things pick up--she's fast and sea kindly in a blow, and reportedly was one of Perry's personal favorites of his own designs. She also has a charming old school ambience down below (deck prisms are always such a nice touch!), and the large cockpit with deep coamings is perfect for typical Bay conditions as well (you don't have to venture offshore to appreciate a snug, comfortable cockpit!).
This particular example has had the same owners for 21 fun years and she's supported them well in their many adventures including a voyage down to Mexico where she stayed in La Paz and PV for a couple years, then San Diego, then the Delta before coming home to Sausalito in 2019; the boat's been well maintained all this time and shows well today. All new electronics in 2013, new fuel tank in 2013, V drive rebuilt in 2020, engine fires right up from a cold start and doesn't smoke, vessel last hauled and bottom painted in August, 2024.
Also, note she's lying in a potentially transferable downtown Sausalito Yacht Harbor slip--there's a long waiting list to get into the marina here so this is a material benefit if you're able to take advantage.

Deck & Hull
Hull is hand laid up, molded fiberglass using fiberglass mat, woven roving and polyester resin. All high stress areas are strengthened with extra layers of mat and woven roving. Longitudinal stringers and transverse floors give the hull stiffness. Limber holes in stringers and floors allow drainage to bilge pump.
Deck is hand laid up molded fiberglass with end grain balsa core for stiffness and insulation. Dorades, sea hood and bosses for deck hardware and winches are molded into deck for watertight integrity.
Modified fin keel with rudder hung on a heavy duty skeg, in 2001 a custom bow plate was fitted to add strength and stability, and in 2002 the stainless steel bow pulpit was replaced. Skeg and rudder are hand laid up fiberglass to proven airfoil design. Rudder stock is solid 2" stainless steel with welded stiffening plate. Gudgeon is thru bolted to skeg.
Bulkheads are attached to hull and deck with minimum 3" wide overlay of mat and woven roving. In visible areas, bulkheads are covered with teak veneer. Sole begins with 3/4" marine plywood sub-sole.
Chain plates are stainless steel, grained and electropolished, attached with stainless steel bolts to bulkhead and knees, which are bonded to hull and mat and woven roving overlays.
Modified fin keel with external ballast of cast lead with added antimony for hardness; ballast is thru-bolted to hull with (11) 1" diameter stainless steel bolts.
V-drive rebuilt in 2020, new fuel tank in 2013.
