Description

JEANNEAU SUN ODYSSEY 42DS - "SQUAREONE"

NEW TO THE MARKET * WELL EQUIPPED * READY TO SAIL

Hi folks, I'm Tom Hall with Marine Servicenter Yacht Sales in San Diego, CA and today I'm presenting a very nice 2006 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 Deck Saloon called "SquareOne".  Feel free to email, call or text me with any questions that you have and to arrange for a showing.

PLEASE NOTE: As of 1/14/25 all interior photos are of "SquareOne" but exterior photos still Jeanneau stock photos (other than the side view with sails stowed, obviously not stock photo).  I'm hoping to have exterior photos and a walk-thru video done and on this listing by end of the week.

"SquareOne" has been well cared for and properly equipped over the years and she truly is a boat that you can step onboard, crank up the engine and head out sailing on.  She is a 2 cabin / 2 head configuration with the "Owners" cabin aft (full-width of boat with huge center island king bed).  She carries the Standard (deep) draft keel at 7 feet (2.13 meter) and has a high aspect, balanced rudder and straight shaft drive with with a kelp cutter installed and a 3-blade feathering propeller for added performance while sailing and under astern propulsion.

Her rig was upgraded in 2019 to include LeisureFurl In-Boom furling and a full-battened mainsail from Ullman Sails.  The genoa was also upgraded to an Ullman at the same time and both sails are reportedly in good condition.  She had a rigging inspection in June 2023 and was cleared for insurance.

I've been lucky enough to have spent a good bit of time sailing and coaching on the 42ds model and I can tell you that they are an excellent handling boat.  They're stable but not heavy or bulky feeling, and they track really well even in bigger puffs.  The steering is crisp and responsive and the boat turns very quickly when you put the helm over hard, so you can pivot the boat easily when docking.  The hull shape, rudder design / placement, rig dimenisions and overall design dynamics give the 42ds an excellent turn of speed.  And when you pop the chute you'll enjoy a fantasic crosswind / downwind ride.

The ergonomics in the cockpit are quite good so there are a lot of comfortable places to sit, stand and lean.  Sitting or standing at either of the dual helms is also very natural and comfortable.  The benches are long enough for a tall person to stretch out for a nap, or to have several friends over for dinner.  The open-center transom gives easy access to the sugar scoop swim platform and boarding ladder, which makes swimning and water activities more convenient and makes getting in and out of a dinghy really safe and easy.  There is not a dinghy included with the boat but she does have dinghy davits that are actually removable and include storage bags.

Accomodations-wise it's one of the best out there, with a huge centerline, KING SIZE bed in the aft cabin that makes if much more comfortable for extended stays and living aboard.  The "Deck Saloon" design means that the coachroof is raised to give more standing headroom down below than most boats in this size catagory.  And with lots of opening deck hatches and ports the interior ventilates really well, and the natural light that pours in is also very refreshing.  And...the designers came up with a clever idea for the aft cabin, above the king bed, under the cockpit table.  They molded in a trunk-type base for the cp table and it has an opening portlight on the aft end so you can get great cross ventilation and nice light coming in above the bed - it's very cool.

And now, the finer details...
